What it is
Skin boosters are injectable treatments based on soft, non-volumising hyaluronic acid, placed superficially across the skin to hydrate it from within. Unlike dermal fillers, they are not designed to add shape. They are designed to improve the quality of the skin itself.
The difference lies in how the gel is made. A filler is engineered to hold its shape and stay where it is placed. A booster is engineered to disperse, so it spreads through the dermis and binds water there. Over a course, that hydration is also thought to support the skin's own collagen-producing cells, so changes in texture and light reflection tend to build over weeks, not appear on the day.

- Dehydrated, crepey or dull-looking skin
- Fine surface lines, particularly on cheeks and around the mouth
- Overall skin texture, softness and light reflection
- Areas that show age early, such as the neck and hands (assessed individually)
Who it may be suitable for
Adults whose main concern is skin quality rather than volume or expression lines, often people who feel their skin looks tired or "flat" despite a good routine.
It can also suit skin that has become dehydrated through sun exposure, central heating, retinoid use or age, where the barrier is broadly intact but the skin still looks dry and dull.
Who it may not be suitable for
Not suitable under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, inflammation or an untreated cold sore in the treatment area, or where there is a known sensitivity to hyaluronic acid products. Certain autoimmune conditions, clotting disorders and some medications change what is sensible and when. A full screen forms part of the consultation.
What to expect
After consultation and cleansing, small superficial injections are placed across the treatment area, usually as many shallow points rather than a few deep ones. Numbing cream can be used, and the appointment is quick.
Most people describe each point as a brief sting, though comfort varies from person to person. The small raised bumps that follow usually flatten within a day. You can return to normal activities the same day, allowing for possible injection marks. A course is normally two or three sessions a few weeks apart, and the result is judged at review, not the next morning.

Product choice and treatment spacing are decided at consultation, based on your skin. Your full medical history, medication and consent come first, and treatment is carried out by a registered nurse prescriber.
Skin boosters are one of the treatments we most often suggest waiting on. If your skincare routine is stripping your skin and causing the dehydration, an injectable will not fix the cause. We will recommend correcting the routine before you spend money on injections.

Aftercare
Keep the area clean and make-up free for 24 hours. Avoid heat, saunas and hard exercise for 48 hours, and leave other facial treatments in the area for around two weeks. A simple moisturiser and daily SPF do more for the result than anything elaborate. Written aftercare and a direct contact route are provided after every appointment, and a review is offered as standard.
Possible side effects & risks
Common and expected: temporary redness, small bumps at the injection points, tenderness and bruising, most of which settle within a day or two.
Less common: swelling that lasts longer than expected, lumps that need reviewing, and infection. Vascular complications are rare with superficial placement but are not impossible. Treatment here is delivered by a registered nurse prescriber, with complication protocols and emergency medicines in clinic.
